Dr Richard Crowder is an internationally recognised flood risk management professional with more than 25 years of experience involving research, innovation, project delivery, framework management, and business leadership. Richard is known for taking on challenging projects and using innovation and digital delivery to solve problems and deliver projects in new and more efficient ways. Richard was the lead researcher on the first two flood modelling software benchmarking studies undertaken by the Environment Agency, England. After completing the second of these studies Richard joined Halcrow (now Jacobs) and for the last 10 years has been the director responsible for the Flood Modeller software. Richard was the project director for the pilot (Lee) Catchment Flood Risk Assessment Management (CFRAM) and the Fingal East Meath CFRAM studies in Ireland. Both studies helped define the CFRAM appraisal process and flood mapping standards in Ireland. For more than 15 years Richard has held a leadership role in delivering work to the Environment Agency. Roles have included project manager, project director, framework manager, and framework director. Services delivered have covered the full range of flood risk management disciplines including flood modelling, flood forecasting, scheme appraisal, engineering design, and asset management. Richard has held senior leadership roles in Halcrow, CH2M and now Jacobs. At Halcrow he was Regional Director (Europe) responsible for growth across the water sector. He is currently part of Jacobs’ Water Catchment Management leadership team and is the Director responsible for growth.
